UMS: 3D Printing

Submission of a 3D print file signifies that you have read and accepted the University Middle School Library’s 3D Printer Policy. All designs will be reviewed by Library Staff before printing. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request. Currently, we are not charging a fee for 3D printing but that could change in the future.

Where Do I Start?
We recommend using Tinkercad to create your project.
Class code: GKP KDX 7SM

Create your project

Make sure your sizing is correct: Click on Edit Grid and change the units to Inches and the width and length to 5.0 and then update the grid.  Keeping your print job between 2-3 inches will mean it gets printed faster than bigger jobs.

Resize your object if it is too big. Hold the shift key while dragging one of the corners to resize it without messing up your proportions.

All finished Change the name of your file to your first and last name and a short description of your project. (Don't use the long goofy name tinkercad assigns, and don't name it Amanda Haas keyring - that's just an example!)

Export yoExport your project with everything in the design as a .STL

Fill out this 3D print submission form to submit your design for printing.  To attach your design in the form, you can find it in the Downloads file on your computer.

What Colors Can I Print?
The 3D printer will only print one color at a time.  You can select a print color when you submit your request and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What Size Can I Print?
Your .STL file cannot exceed 10MB. Print size is limited to 5 inches height x 5 inches length, x 5 inches width.  Your job will be finished printing sooner if it is smaller, so try to keep it around 2-3 inches.  Large jobs have to run overnight and take longer to get back.

What Print Material is Used?
The prints use PLA which is a biodegradable plastic.  The material will melt in extreme heat.

How Long Will It Take To Get My Design?
Your print job will be done within a week.  We will deliver it to you or to your advisor.
