3rd Grade:Home Row
This lesson is the first in a series of five lessons that teaches basic keyboarding techniques, including proper finger placement and posture. In this lesson, students focus on the home row keys.
Upper Row: This lesson is the second in a series of five lessons that teaches basic keyboarding techniques, including proper finger placement and posture. In this lesson, students focus on the upper row keys and review the home row keys.
Primary Objectives:
  • Student learns proper posture for keyboarding.
  • Student learns to identify touch keys.
  • Student understands reach keys.
  • Student learns to type upper row keys.
  • Student learns to type letters without looking at the keyboard.
Secondary Objectives:
  • Student learns and practices using technology for real-world application.
4th Grade:  Communicating Online: Cyberbullying
Students learn to prevent, stop, and not participate in cyber bullying. 

Browsing and URLs
This lesson teaches students how to identify and use URLs to research information online, create and use bookmarks, and use the navigation buttons in a web browser.


Primary Objectives:
  • Student learns the components of a URL and understands their meanings.
  • Student learns to add and use bookmarks for web pages.
  • Student learns to enter a URL to navigate to a web page.
  • Student learns to use a browser to find and view information online.
  • Student learns to use the back and forward buttons to navigate through web pages.
Secondary Objectives:
  • Student learns to use the Internet more effectively for research.
  • Student gains a better understanding of the technical aspects of how the World Wide Web is organized.
5th Grade:
Dealing with Cyberbullying
Even tech-savvy students can find themselves a target of cyberbullying. Friendly electronic communications such as texting, gaming, and instant messaging are ruined by negative rumors, embarrassing photos, and threatening comments. This lesson reminds students to treat everyone with respect, avoid gossip, and to understand the potentially devastating emotional effects of cyberbullying. It offers students methods to respond to cyberbullies, such as adjusting privacy settings and blocking messages from the sender. Finally, if cruel communication escalates, students are encouraged to ask trusted adults, moderators, and administrators for help.
Browsing Basics
This lesson teaches students basic information about how to use a web browser to find information on the World Wide Web, including the use of URLs, links, home pages, scroll bars, and navigational buttons.
Primary Objectives:
  • Student learns characteristics of web pages and websites.
  • Student learns what a URL is and how to use it to navigate to a web page.
  • Student learns what a browser is and how it functions.
  • Student learns the difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web.
  • Student learns to print a web page.
  • Student learns what a home page is and understands the difference between a home page of a browser and the home page of a website.
  • Student learns to use browser dialog boxes to download files and software from the World Wide Web.
  • Student learns to identify links and use them to navigate through web pages.
